Adam Johnson Jr. “Bill”
December 19, 1938 — March 6, 2026
87 years old
December 19, 1938, the late Viola Cunningham and Adam Johnson Sr. welcomed their son into this world after four previous births of daughters. Even though he was named Adam Jr., his parents and siblings fondly called him “Bill”. That nickname stuck with him as he lived a blessed life of 87 years. Bill peacefully transitioned to his eternal home on March 6, 2026.
After finishing high school at James B. Dudley, Adam Jr. entered the US Navy and made a career of thirty years which took him all over the world. He retired as an E5, Petty Officer 2nd Class in 1990. Upon his retirement he returned home to Greensboro, NC.
Bill is the father of a son, Christopher D. Chavis of Prospect NC.
He was a self-proclaimed Family Genealogist of which he was very passionate. Bill loved his family and every opportunity he was given; he would sit down with his sisters, nieces and nephews and go over the family history on both sides of the family. Knowing who you were and where you came from was an aspect of life that Bill deemed of great significance.
Bill enjoyed his retirement by planting flowers and trees around his home, something he had enjoyed doing with his mother over the years. Other pastimes were collecting antiques of furniture, lamps, and different collectibles, something that gave him much joy. Playing his guitar and keyboard was a way he often spent his evening hours.
His memories will be cherished by his son, Christopher D. Chavis of Prospect, NC. Sister, Betty J. Rankin, Greensboro, NC and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Bill was proceeded in death by his parents, Viola and Adam Johnson Sr., Sisters, Marie Brunson (Alfonso), Bertie Mae Johnson, and Katherine Fitzgerald (John) Brother-in-law, Robert Rankin Sr.
