Mrs. Christine W. Hemingway, 77 of Chatham, VA, departed this earthly life on Sunday, June 5, 2022, at Duke University Hospital, Durham, NC.
Born August 2, 1944, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of the late Eddie Wright and Queen Esther Davis Craft. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Dolores "Lois" Watson and four brothers, Benjamin Clark, William Clark, Samuel Clark and John Clark.
Mrs. Hemingway attended the public schools of Pittsylvania County, graduating from Northside High School in 1963. She received her bachelor's degree in education from St. Paul's College in Lawrenceville, VA. She then matriculated to the University of Virginia, receiving her master's degree. She was employed by the Pittsylvania County School System for forty-one years. After her retirement, Mrs. Hemingway continued her love of educating children. She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society Beta Chi Chapter.
She professed her faith in Jesus Christ at an early age and joined the Corinth Christian Church (Disciple of Christ), where she served faithfully as member of the choir ministry, usher ministry and church clerk.
She was united in marriage to Jeremiah Hemingway and to this union, one son was born.
Mrs. Hemingway leaves a legacy of great love, dedication, and a treasure of many memories to her son, Terrence Hemingway; her grandchildren, Terrence Hemingway, Jr. (Quintara), Bricen Hemingway (Sha'Quella), Don Hollingsworth, II, Hailey Swindle, Christine D. Watson and James E. Watson; her great grandchildren, Teriyah Hemingway, Bryson Hemingway and Tahvier Hemingway; her niece and nephew whom she reared as her own, Annette Hollingsworth (Don) and Marvin Watson (Rebecca); two godchildren, Juowone Luck (Zitilalic) and Renita Luck; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Christine Hemingway, 77, passed away Sunday, June 5, 2022 at Duke University Medical Center.
