Obituary

Mrs. Dicie Louise Wilkerson Callands, 94 of Winston Salem, NC and formerly of Java, VA, departed this life on Thursday, June 2, 2022, at the residence of her daughter in Winston Salem, NC.  

Born December 8, 1927, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of the late Frank Coles and Frances Logan Coles.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, James Coles and John Womack and a special devoted and loving cousin, Beatrice Coles Wilkerson.

Louise, as she was affectionately known as, was educated in the public schools of Pittsylvania County.  She was employed at Village Laundry and Hargrave Military Academy, both in Chatham, VA, Bassett Walker and Pittsylvania County Meals on Wheels.

At an early age, she accepted Jesus as her personal Savior and joined the Riceville Missionary Baptist Church, where she remained a faithful and dedicated member until her decline in health, serving as member of the Usher Board, Nurses' Board, Missionary, Sunday School teacher and Deaconess Board.  In June of 1973, the Riceville Junior Usher Board was organized under her leadership.  Louise was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star of VA, PHA, Chapter 168 and other service organizations. 

She leaves to She leaves to cherish her memories four children; Richard Henry Lee Wilkerson (Joyce) of Pleasantville, NJ, Evelyn Marie Wilkerson Sanders (Norman) of Winston-Salem, NC, Lewis Bernard Wilkerson of Atlantic City, NJ and Larry Wayne Wilkerson of Atlantic City NJ; one sister, Beatrice Waller (Raymond) of Chester, PA; her stepchildren, Lillian Smith, Fannie Callands, Talbert Callands, Jr., Hadell Callands, and George Thomas Callands; nine grandchildren, Stacy, Evelyn Marie (Clyde), Bernice (Atiba), Therese, Charles Sanders, Lewis “LB”, Aleeyah, Lewis “Louie”, and Charles Wilkerson; one step grandson, Vincent; a host of great grandchildren; a devoted first cousin, Mr. Theodore McKinley Logan of the home; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
