Helen Graves

December 14, 1933 ~ November 3, 2021 (age 87)



Helen Elaine Hayes Graves, 87, transitioned into her heavenly home on Wednesday, November 3rd, 2021. Helen transitioned at Beacon Place (Hopice on Summit Avenue in Greensboro).  She was born on December 14, 1933 in Mt. Vernon, New York to James and Ethel Hayes who preceded her in death.  

Helen attended and graduated from A. B. Davis High School (Mt. Vernon, New York) and Montefiore Hospital Nursing School in Bronx, New York where she obtained her Nursing degree.
She worked as a nurse for 50 years and was employed at Montefiore Hospital until she relocated to Greensboro, NC with her husband Marshall Ray who also preceded her in death. While in Greensboro, she was employed at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital, L. Richardson Hospital and Wesley Long Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She later met and married Robert Graves who has also preceded her in death.

Helen was a faithful and dedicated member of the East Market Street Seventh Day Adventist Church here in Greensboro, NC.  While there, she was a member of and/or participated with the Pathfinders, the Gospel Choir, the Widows Group, the Women's Auxiliary, the Golden Ages, the Missionaries, and the Deaconess.  

Helen was also a dedicated member of the Visually Inspired Persons Family and Friends Support Group of Greensboro, NC where during the years, she held many positions.  She enjoyed and looked forward to her trips to Camp Dogwood during the summer and the Visually Impaired Fishing Tournament in the Outer Banks during the Fall. She also enjoyed bowling, fishing, traveling, and serving the Lord. Her presence will be cherished and greatly missed. 

She is survived by her daughter Felicia Sanders, Grandaughters Joy Greer ( Miguel), Desiree Sanders and DeAndra Sanders, Grandsons Isaiah Campbell, and James Sanders, thirteen (13) grandchildren, Zhaquondalee, Zhamarea, Miguel II, Zhamia, NaXiyiah, Rodney Jr., Jaleyah, Zoey, Chandler,
Jayden, Kayden, Kylie and Nyla all of whom reside in Greensboro, her closest and dearest friend Linda Speaks of Greensboro, her brother James Hayes of Illinois and her Sister Lois Coleman (Charles) of Mt. Vernon, New York and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was also preceded in death by her brother Ronald Hayes of California, and sisters Eleanor Zanfordino of Hopewell Junction, NY and LaVerne Davis of Greensboro.
