James Robert Hollingsworth 

James Robert Hollingsworth, of Burlington, North Carolina and formerly of Asheville, North Carolina passed away on July 10, 2025. 

He was born January 24, 1946, son of the late Hilda (née Smiley) and William Hollingsworth.

Robert grew up in Waynesville, North Carolina and graduated from Waynesville High School in 1964. He received  a B.S. in Chemistry from Western Carolina University in 1968.

He worked for BASF/Akzo Nobel from graduation through 2010, New Generation Yarn from 2010 to 2018, and SANS Fibers from 2018 until 2024.

He and his wife, Julianne, moved to Burlington in 2010.

Robert enjoyed shooting guns and spending time with family. He coached youth sports and always made an effort to keep his loved ones safe. 

Robert was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be missed greatly.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Jesse Hollingsworth of Waynesville. 

He is survived by his darling wife, Julianne Hollingsworth of Burlington;  his children, Christy Pace of Clyde, North Carolina, Andrew Hollingsworth of Clyde, North Carolina, Joshua Hollingsworth (Lauren) of Asheville, Sierra Shell (Jonah) of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Anna Taylor (Mark) of Wilmington, North Carolina; and grandchildren, Thomas Hollingsworth, Elly Hamlin, Micah Hollingsworth, Ryker Hollingsworth, Arden Freedman, Jackson Taylor, Foster Taylor and Rhodes Taylor.

Per Robert’s wishes, a private service will be held with the family.

Robert’s family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Beacon Place Hospice Center in Greensboro, North Carolina, Dr. Govinda Brahmanday of Alamance Regional Hospital and Dr. Allison N. Martin of Duke Hospital.
