Jesse Givens Obituary

Jesse Lee Givens, age 85, of Greensboro NC, quietly went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 27, 2024.

Formerly of Robersonville, NC, Jesse was born November 1, 1938, to the late Rufus H. Moore, Jr., and Rosa Lee Foreman. He was reared by his beloved foster parents John Henry and Mamie Givens, who taught him about the love of God. He joined Little Grove Holiness Church, Washington, NC at an early age. He served as a musician for the church until he left to go to college. He graduated from Bethel High School, Bethel, NC. He graduated from the State University of New York, Albany, NY, and the National School of Business in Nashville, TN, where he met his wife, Marion B. Rucker of Evington,VA

In 1961, Jesse joined the United States Air Force. He retired after 26 years of honorable service. He received numerous medals including the distinguished Meritorious Service Medal (MSM), and the Air Force Commendation Medal. During his service, he attained the rank of Chief Master Sergeant (E-9). After retiring from the Air Force in 1987, he relocated to Greensboro, NC, where he was employed with the Guilford County Department of Public Health until he retired in 2001. Jesse and his family became members of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, where he was very active in the church, serving with the Transportation Ministry, the Men of Valor, Sanctuary Choirs, and the Steward Ministry. He loved the Lord and enjoyed studying and discussing the Word. Jesse was an avid golfer and played as much as possible. He has four (4) Hole-In Ones. He was well liked and respected in his community, always willing to give a helping hand.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 57 years, Marion R. Givens. Jesse is survived by three loving children, Charles Worsley (Mary), Greenville, NC, Troy Givens (Bessie), Durham, NC, Cheryl Givens, Greensboro, NC; three grandchildren, Yolanda Anderson, Graham, NC, LaTosha Lane (Marcus), Greenville, NC, Quentin Givens, Durham NC; five great grandchildren, one sister-in-law, five brothers-in law, and a host of nieces,- nephews, relatives and friends.
