John (Siggie) Sigmund Fitzgerald Obituary

John Sigmund "Siggie" Fitzgerald was born on January 21, 1951, in Greensboro, North Carolina, to the late Catherine Johnson Fitzgerald and John Leo Fitzgerald. He was raised in Greensboro alongside his beloved brother, Larry Conrad "Lank" Fitzgerald, where he developed the values of faith, family, hard work, and service that would guide him throughout his life.

John attended Ben L. Smith High School before earning a degree in Accounting from North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro. He later became a Certified Public Accountant and established John S. Fitzgerald, CPA, where he faithfully served the Greensboro community and surrounding areas for more than three decades. As a sole practitioner, he provided tax preparation, bookkeeping, and accounting services with professionalism, integrity, and genuine care. To his clients, John was much more than an accountant—he was a trusted advisor, confidant, and friend.

John was formerly married to Angela Wilson, and together they were blessed with two children, whom he loved deeply: his son, Sigmund Jarred "Jay" Fitzgerald, and his daughter, Lauren Amber Fitzgerald.

Known affectionately as "Siggie," John lived life with enthusiasm, purpose, and gratitude. He was passionate about health and fitness and was always eager to share the benefits of healthy eating and his favorite juicing recipes with anyone willing to listen. Whether family, friends, or someone he had just met, he believed everyone could benefit from taking better care of themselves.

On July 25, 2026, at the age of 75, John passed away while doing something he truly loved—working out. His commitment to living a healthy life reflected the discipline and determination that characterized every aspect of who he was.

Anyone who knew John could recognize his signature greeting. When asked how he was doing, he would respond with a broad smile and his familiar words, "Giving God all the praise and glory," followed by his infectious laugh. That joyful spirit and radiant smile were reminders of his deep faith and echoed the warmth of his father, affectionately known as "Fitz."

John never met a stranger. He believed every person mattered and freely shared his time, wisdom, encouragement, and kindness with family, friends, clients, and countless people whose lives he touched. His generosity, humility, and willingness to help others left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

John leaves to cherish his memory his loving son, Sigmund Jarred "Jay" Fitzgerald; his beloved daughter, Lauren Amber Fitzgerald; his devoted brother, Larry Conrad "Lank" Fitzgerald; his cherished nephew, Javon Fitzgerald; and his great-niece and great-nephew, India Fitzgerald and Jordan Fitzgerald. He is also lovingly remembered by his extended family, including the Johnson, Rankin, Wilson, Henderson, Heath, Massey, Cunningham and Jackman families, as well as many dear friends, neighbors, clients, and all whose lives he touched.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Catherine Johnson Fitzgerald and John L. Fitzgerald; his grandparents; and his aunts and uncles, with the exception of his beloved aunt, Betty Johnson Rankin.

John's life was one marked by faith, integrity, generosity, compassion, and service. His legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched, the wisdom he shared, the love he gave, and the example he set. Although he will be deeply missed, his laughter, kind spirit, unwavering faith, and genuine love for people will continue to inspire all who knew him.
