Marion M. Terry Jr., affectionally known as “Jimmy”, departed this life and entered into eternity
on April 10, 2026. Marion was born in Mecklenburg County, Virginia on July 14, 1946 to
Marion M. Terry Sr. and Eliza B. Terry. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by
two siblings, Lola Laney and Chester M. Terry.
At an early age, Marion attended with his family and was baptized at Antioch Christion Church
near Townsville, North Carolina. He was a graduate of West End High School Class of 1964.
Marion enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1965.
Marion married the love of his life, Barbara Ann Terry, and they wedded on June 22, 1968.
Together they traveled for many years throughout the world as Marion served his country. From
this union, they were blessed with three sons. During his career, he was called to serve in two
tours in Vietnam along with countless other military missions. Marion excelled in his career and
ultimately rose through the ranks of Chief Master Sergeant(E-9) which is the highest enlisted
rank that can be achieve. For the majority of his career, he worked as a Flight Engineer on C-130
aircraft. He also trained and qualified others in this challenging position. Marion retired from
active duty on January 1, 1994 after serving honorably 28 years, 4 months, and 11 days.
Afterward, he continued his Air Force Service as a ROTC Instructor at Scotch Plains High
School and East Orange High School located in New Jersey for another combined 13 years
before officially retiring and ending his work life.
Marion loved being a son, husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, and friend. He was a great
storyteller that could keep people entertained detailing such things as his military adventures and
family history. Marion and Barbara loved to host family events at their home and later enjoyed
living a quiet life spending time together.
Barbara preceded him in death on August 14, 2024 and they truly loved each other through all
life challenges until the very end.
Marion leaves to cherish his memory three sons; Darrell A. Terry – Greensville, SC, Tyson L.
Terry Sr. – Roanoke Rapids, NC, and Marion S. Terry of the home – Greensboro, NC. One
daughter, Linh-Da Thi Thach – Oakland, CA. Two brothers, Fred M. Terry – Nelson, VA, and
Torres V. Terry – Danville, VA. Two sisters, Vera T. Garner – Roxboro, NC, and Evonnie
Gbadebo – Enfield, CT. One Uncle, Nathaniel (Bo) Terry – Richmond, VA, and One Aunt, Marie
(Sidney) Venable – Clarksville, VA. Fifteen grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, six sister’s
in-laws, and three brother in-laws, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
