Pearl Odell (Dixon) Maddox was born August 27, 1945 to the late James E. and Edna Anderson Dixon in Java, VA. (Halifax). Odell entered into eternal rest on Sunday, November 21,2021
She was educated and graduated from the Halifax County Public School System. Pearl (Odell) accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at the age of 10, was baptized and joined County Line Baptist Church. After graduating high school, Pearl (Odell) moved to Washington, D.C. Upon arriving to Washington, DC she worked at S&W Cafeteria. She later met and married Charles Vernon Maddox, Jr. From this union they had three children Frenchel, Charles III, and Lesley.
She later worked at Dart Drug as a Cashier/Pharmacy Clerk. In October 1989, she gained employment at Union Labor Life Insurance Company (ULLICO) in the File Room as a File Clerk/Switchboard Operator, retiring after nineteen (19) years of service. She loved her job and the people she worked with at each of her jobs throughout the years. She was a member at Ebenezer AME Church in Fort Washington, MD. Pearl (Odell) loved God and always wanted to learn more about Him. She used to often say, “I just want to do what pleases God.”
After retiring from ULLICO she moved to Charlotte, NC. While living in Charlotte, she volunteered at the local nursing home three (3) days per week until her cousin became ill. She then traveled from Charlotte to Washington, DC to assist with caring for her until her services were no longer needed.
Odell (Pearl) was a member at Grace AME Zion Church in Charlotte, NC where she served on the Deaconess Board, Food Pantry, and Senior Committee. Additionally, Pearl (Odell) enjoyed reading her Bible, listening/live streaming sermons when she couldn’t make it to church or Bible Study, caring for her family, singing hymns, talking to & helping her neighbors, walking with the ladies, painting, physical, as well as virtual shopping with her daughters and grandchildren, visiting museums and art galleries, attending theater performances with her children, grandchildren and church family, as well as planting and nurturing her vegetable & herb garden.
Preceding her in eternal life are her parents, James and Edna Dixon; her three brothers, Sonny, Hubert, and William Dixon; two sisters MayNell and Deloris; three nephews Leslie Coleman, Michael and Mark Bruner; three cousins Earl Dixon, Samuel Dixon and Lynn Coleman.
She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters Frenchel L. M. Moss (Gregory); Lesley M. Perkins; One son Charles V. Maddox III ; one brother Jimmie D. Dixon (Las); three sisters-in-law Fannie Dixon (Hubert), Marie Richardson (William), Phyllis Dixon (William); four granddaughters Karlee and Carmin Maddox; Nia Moss and Aaliyah Maddox; three grandsons Noah Moss, Carlos Maddox and Nathaniel Perkins; two great-grandsons Karson and Kayson Maddox; two aunts Arnithia Ross & Elsie Anderson and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.Pearl Odelle Maddox ,76, passed away, Saturday, November 20, 2021 at her residence.
